Highly recommended for beginners - Learn about the principles and fundamentals of Pilates movement.
In summary, Pilates is more than just exercise; it's a holistic approach to movement that emphasizes mindful engagement with the body, resulting in improved strength, flexibility, balance and overall well-being.
The six principles of Pilates are:
Breathing:
Proper breathing is a cornerstone of Pilates, influencing muscle engagement and movement quality.
Concentration:
Pilates requires focused attention on each movement and body alignment, maximizing the effectiveness of each exercise.
Control:
Each movement is executed with conscious and deliberate muscular control, ensuring precision and preventing injury.
Centering:
Pilates emphasizes developing a strong and stable core, which serves as the foundation for all movements.
Flow:
The practice encourages smooth and continuous transitions between exercises, fostering a sense of fluidity and grace.
Precision:
Pilates emphasizes precise execution of movements, ensuring that the correct muscles are engaged and joints are protected.
During the session you will gain the confidence to enter a class setting where you will be equipped with the basic knowledge on how to ensure that you move safely and are able to listen to your body, using your center (core) muscles to make each movement, thus enabling you to get the most out of your Pilates practice.

Posture and alignment - Looking at the three natural curvatures of the spine and learning the importance of their optimal alignment. Neutral spine alignment is essential for safe movement in the lower back and a deeper engagement of the center (core) muscles.
Learn how to engage your deep abdominal muscles and pelvic floor. Our deepest abdominal muscle is the Transverse Abdominis - nature's natural corset. This is our magic muscle and wraps around the whole trunk front to back. Learning how to activate this muscle during your Pilates movement (and everyday life) is one of the best ways to increase the quality of your life. It is an essential first line of support for your spine being the closest muscle to your pelvis, spine and ribcage. A master connector between your upper and lower body and it's main function is to stabilize, protect and strengthen the spine.
Pilates breathing - Lateral breath 'rib cage breathing' This breathing technique helps engage deep abdominal muscles, which stabilize the spine. It is a crucial part of Pilates, supporting core strength and spinal alignment. Learn what to do on the Inhale and what to do on the exhale.
